Am I An Addict?
Am I An Addict?

Are you worried that you may be addicted to drugs or alcohol?
You are not alone. Many people struggle with addiction every day.
Addiction is a powerful disease that takes over your life. It’s not easy to admit that you have a problem, but recognizing that you need help is the first step on the road to recovery.
If you think that you might be addicted, there are several signs to look for.
Check out some signs that we included in this list and see if any of these apply to you. If so, it’s time to get help.
1) You Cannot Stop Drinking or Using By Yourself
Have you tried quitting yet? Have you vowed to stop but have found yourself drinking or using again and again? If you’ve tried to stop drinking or using drugs by yourself and failed, then you are likely addicted. When you are addicted, it makes it very difficult to quit.
You will find that it will be hard to control your substance use. Even if you try to stop, you’ll begin craving the substances and experience withdrawal symptoms. Relapse is also common so you will need help to overcome it.
2) You Are Using Substances More Frequently and In More Quantities
Do you find yourself using more and more drugs or alcohol as time goes on? Do you find that the usual amount is not enough anymore? When you are addicted, you will tend to likely use more substances more frequently. Your tolerance level is getting higher so you will need more and more of the drug or alcohol to get the same high.
If you feel that your usage is out of control, then you are likely addicted to substances. You’re most likely using drugs or alcohol as a habit rather than an escape.
3) You Are Prioritizing Substance Use Over Your Responsibilities and Other Activities
Are you having problems at work or at school because of your drinking or drug use? Are you getting into legal trouble because of your substance abuse? Are you losing friends or family members because you would rather use substances than spend time with them?
When you are addicted, your substance use will become more important than anything else. You will stop caring about your responsibilities and other activities. All of your focus will be on using drugs or alcohol.
4) You Make an Effort to Get Substances Even with Illegal Means
Are you willing to do anything to get your hands on drugs or alcohol? Even if that means breaking the law? If you are willing to do anything, including committing crimes, then you are likely addicted.
When you are addicted, you will need the drug or alcohol to function. You will be so desperate for it that you’ll do whatever it takes to get your hands on drugs or alcohol. You may steal money or property in order to buy substances, or you may even resort to violence.
5) You Are Experiencing Withdrawal Symptoms When You Stop Using
Do you feel sick when you try to stop? Are you suddenly feeling dizzy, nauseous, or worse, experiencing debilitating symptoms that are hindering your day-to-day life?
When you are addicted to drugs or alcohol, your body will become dependent on them. This means that if you try to stop using, you will experience withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms can be very uncomfortable and make it difficult to quit.
